A Little About Us
The Miami Valley Trial Lawyers Association has always been an active supporter of legal education at the University of Dayton School of Law. The Association is committed to the future of the profession. One such initiative was taken in memory of a gifted local trial lawyer and charter MVTLA member, Roger B. Turrell.
Roger B. Turrell was born on June 25, 1927 and was married in 1948. Graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1950, and received his law degree in 1953 from Ohio state University.
After graduation, Roger worked with the Ohio attorney general’s office until he, his wife and 4 children moved to Middletown where he became in-house counsel for Armco Steel. He entered the private practice of law in 1963 in Butler County until he moved to Dayton in the late 1970’s. He was the consummate personal injury trial lawyer and a complete gentleman.
Roger was one of the original members of the MVTLA and to many was the heart and soul of the organization until his untimely death on September 29, 1989. He died in a private airplane crash that also took the lives of 2 of his passengers. In 1991, the MVTLA established “The Roger B. Turrell scholarship fund” at the University of Dayton School of Law where it has provided funds to many law students over these many years. The proceeds for this scholarship come solely from MVTLA members who contribute money in honor of “Our brother”, Roger.
